Favorite Leather item in your arsenal of bar/fetish wear:
My leather flower hairpiece that my VERY vanilla BFF gave me before the Ms. San Diego Leather contest. She told me that she read up on the gifting of leathers and gave it to me while saying, “I love you and I know you will make the best Queen of the Leathers ever.” Of course I cried and died laughing.
TLJ-VT: Is your run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization? If so Please tell me about your Sponsor (feel free to include a copy of their logo and a url to their website) and your involvement with them in 100 words or less.
IMsL Contestant Sarge: My run is sponsored by three amazing groups: San Diego Leather Pride, The Leather Foundation and Desire Leather Women Unleashed. San Diego Leather Pride produces the Mr. & Ms. San Diego Leather Titles. Since I announced my intention to open a sex-positive community center, The Stomping Ground San Diego, I have been working closely for the last six months with the Leather Foundation. Desire Leather Women Unleashed is an annual event, which provides the opportunity for women to celebrate their sexuality and kink freely. I’m so happy that I get to work with them for MANY years to come.
TLJ-VT: Tell me about your favorite charity.
IMsL Contestant Sarge: I am excited to tell you about The Leather Foundation! The Leather Foundation is a San Diego based 501C(3) charity whose purpose is to provide aid to the local Leather community, addressing unmet welfare, health and safety issues unique to our community members. Some of the outreach programs include: Hepatitis Integrated Program Services, which helps high risk clients and those diagnosed with HepC with social services; the Leather Cares Help Fund, which provides emergency funds to people in the sex-positive community who are in financial need; and the San Diego Leather History Project, which is a preservation project and leather library for our community.
TLJ-VT: Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.
IMsL Contestant Sarge: I’m a slave to my community and happy about it. I feel that a community will fail without the service of its members. Volunteering shows heart and dedication, and those two things alone can make up a great community.
TLJ-VT: What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?
IMsL Contestant Sarge: I am a sex-positive woman who found leather and was initially attracted to it for the discipline. I am most in my “leather skin” when I am playing, when I am fisting as part of my group The Gang Bang Girls, and when I am out and about in the leather community, donating my energy and love!
TLJ-VT: Who is your favorite Leather Woman…Why?
IMsL Contestant Sarge: I have so many favorites! And they are favorites for many different reasons. Judy Tallwing-McCarthy for paving the way for leatherwomen. Naria Jordan for fighting for human rights. Sarha Shaubach for being wholly authentic and completely devoted to her community. Each of these women inspired me to have faith in myself as well as challenge myself as a titleholder.
TLJ-VT: What do you feel is the most dangerous mis-information passed through traditional & social media affecting our community today, and how would you combat it should the opportunity arise?
IMsL Contestant Sarge: The most dangerous information circulating about leather people is the idea that what we do is abuse. There are still states that don’t have a consent law. For example, in Nevada, leather sex can be treated as violence, punishable by law. I’m combating this through sex positive education; that what we do is cathartic, consensual, sexually-expressive, and spiritually fit.
TLJ-VT: in 100 words or less what will you do as IMsL or IMsBB to promote your title?
IMsL Contestant Sarge: IMsLs typically have a plethora of unique opportunities to attend events and teach in communities, both large and small. People forget the reason why they came into this community in the first place: to radically alter their sex life! For example, I get a lot of inquiries about the GBGs, and it’s clear to me that women want to develop similar groups in their own communities. Sexual empowerment is one of the most potent outcomes of participating in this lifestyle. Being IMsL would afford me the unique opportunity to help teach other leather and kinky women.
TLJ-VT: What do you say to those who feel that the Title system is outdated and no longer necessary?
IMsL Contestant Sarge: I say that’s crazy! Leather titles give the titleholders a great reason to travel and to do outreach as part of their responsibilities. In addition, they serve as an excellent platform for providing education to all kinds of people. I feel like it actually brings people together in a different and unique way. Titleholders help to weave the web of leather folks even tighter and they serve as the ambassadors and welcome wagon to a community.
